about

In any musician’s life there are artists whose work changes everything and Steve Lacy has burned brightly throughout mine. His influence was profound ranging from how to make a sound on a saxophone, the goal of music (passed down from Monk- ‘lift the bandstand’), to be omnivorous in exploring the arts (everything he ever wrote was dedicated to an inspiration) , to focus and commit to your musical way, and be generous and supportive of younger musicians.
This project was conceived to honor that flame that enriched my life and to bring some of the music he hadn’t yet recorded for others to enjoy.
